Beyond the bag

Reducing waste, strengthening communities

The bags are only part of what we do. Most of our work in the medina isn't sold at all — it's helping shops, riads and neighbours throw away less.

The Octopus

A community waste system, not a piece of equipment. It works by separating waste at the source into eight streams — food waste, reuse and repair, recycling, plastics, and more — each following one simple rhythm: reduce, separate, store, dispose less often. It adapts to the space, whether that's a riad kitchen, a shop, or a family home. We set it up with you, put it in the languages your team uses, and nominate one person to keep it running. Most people start with just two streams — food waste and reusable bags — and add more when it feels easy.

Clean-ups and neighbourhood plans

Organised clean-ups, plus longer-term waste-reduction and upcycling plans for a street or a quarter — practical, local, and built around what a neighbourhood will actually keep doing once we've gone.

Education sessions

Short, plain sessions for staff or guests at a riad, hotel or business: what to separate, what to refuse, what can be made again. No jargon, and pitched at the people who'll do it day to day.

Every bag we make and sell buys time on the ground here. That's the whole point — the craft funds the work, and the work is reducing waste in Fez.

Talk to us

There's no menu and no price list — what we do depends on your space, your team and what you want to change. Tell us what you're working with and we'll tell you what's possible.
