Dar Al-Hiraf — Fez Crafts House
Hands-On Masterclass Workshops in the Medina

Step into the living heart of Fez — a UNESCO-listed city where craftsmanship, natural materials, and centuries-old skills still shape daily life.
Just moments from the iconic Bab Bou Jeloud (Blue Gate), our working artisan atelier hosts intimate 90-minute masterclass workshops led by experienced local makers. These small-group experiences offer visitors one of the most authentic things to do in the Fez medina — learning traditional Moroccan crafts directly from the artisans who practice them every day.
Each session is hands-on, personal, and designed to create a meaningful object you will take home — not just a souvenir, but a memory shaped by your own hands.
Small groups ensure genuine interaction, individual guidance, and a calm, welcoming atmosphere.
90 minutes • 300 MAD per person • Maximum 5 guests per session****
Choose Your Workshop
Zellige Mosaic Workshop
Create your own geometric artwork using hand-cut natural clay pieces coloured with traditional mineral and plant-based pigments.
Zellige is one of Morocco’s most treasured art forms, rooted in Andalusian and Islamic design traditions. For centuries, artisans in Fez have assembled intricate patterns symbolizing harmony, infinity, and spiritual balance.
In this workshop, you do not simply make a mosaic — you participate in a living cultural legacy.
Pottery Wheel Workshop
Shape natural clay on a traditional pottery wheel to form your own plate, bowl, or decorative piece, then decorate it with local motifs, calligraphy, or your own artistic design.
The mineral-rich clay around Fez has supported generations of artisans and remains prized for its strength and smooth texture. This ancient craft blends Berber, Arab, and Andalusian influences into objects both functional and beautiful.
Sewing, refashioning, upcycling.

Make Your Own Moroccan Medina Bag.
Transform reclaimed cotton and denim into a practical everyday bag inspired by the flowing lines of the traditional djellaba.
This workshop reimagines heritage garments into contemporary sustainable fashion that reduces single-use plastics.
Choose your materials, learn simple sewing techniques, and leave with a durable handmade bag ready to use in markets, travel, and everyday life.
Calligraphy Workshop
Learn traditional Moroccan script from a local master artisan and create your own design.
Calligraphy in Fez is deeply tied to the city’s identity as a spiritual and intellectual centre, home to the historic University of al-Qarawiyyin — one of the world’s oldest universities. Here, writing is more than communication; it is art, devotion, and cultural expression.
Your design can be created on paper, wood, fabric, or ceramic depending on the session.
